A University of Maryland Scholars Program alumna, Mara Stein began her career in the world of journalism, earning a Bachelor’s degree from the prestigious Philip Merrill College of Journalism. However, it was in the legal realm that she discovered her calling. Inspired by a vision to serve others through the power of knowledge and law, she embarked on a new path, attending American University Washington College of Law.
Upon graduating, Mara became a licensed attorney in Maryland in 2009. Her commitment to helping people rectify injustices led her to establish Stein Legal LLC in 2012. Her vision was a law firm not only dedicated to upholding the rights of the disenfranchised, but also a space for lawyers that promotes diversity and the importance of work-life balance.
Under Mara’s leadership, Stein Legal LLC has marked significant victories, particularly in the realm of immigration and family law. The firm has successfully assisted children in becoming Special Immigrant Juveniles, establishing a path to lawful permanent residency and U.S. citizenship. Moreover, she has helped numerous people win their cases in removal proceedings and transition to lawful permanent residents.
In the area of family law, Mara has empowered parents, helping them to secure child support for their minor children, win custody in the minor childrens’ best interests, and helped people win significant monetary awards in the dissolution of marriages. Under Mara’s leadership, Stein Legal has successfully won an appeal before the Maryland Appellate Court in a child custody matter and overturned the denial of asylum with an appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals.
Mara is proud to have built a tight-knit team of attorneys and staff whose highest priority is client satisfaction and the highest quality legal representation. Mara attributes Stein Legal’s continued success to teamwork, a deep understanding of the law, and a shared passion for and commitment to serving clients effectively.
Mara is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, Montgomery County Bar Association, and Prince George’s County Bar Association. She is also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and a Board Member of the Takoma Langley Crossroads Association.
